Polyunsaturated fats – This fat will lower both LDL and HDL levels. Remember, we don’t want to lower HDL levels. Polyunsaturated fats are found in safflower oil, sunflower oil and corn oil.

Essential Fatty Acids – These guys are important! Essential fatty acids maintain the structure of your cell membranes (without going into the full details, this is a good thing!). They have also been linked to maintaining healthy bloodpressure levels, immune function and preventing blood clots. Some common foods that deliver EFAs are vegetable oils, fish, seeds, vegetables and grains.

Trans-Fatty Acids – These are found in lots of packaged foods and fast foods. This type of fast will increase LDL levels and lower HDL levels – the complete opposite of what you want. You guessed it – you want to avoid this type of fat.

Remember – not all fat is bad! Don’t obsess over the amount of fat you take in, just remember to limit the calories you consume if you are trying to lose weight.

Eats lots of fresh, wholesome foods and avoid processed foods. By doing this, you will avoid taking in the “bad fats” and give your body the healthy fats it needs.
