“How do I ‘stay on track’ with my eating and nutrition while on vacation?” 👈🏻 This is a common question I receive from you guys and many of my clients. Since I’m coming off of a little vacation myself, I figured it’d be a good time to address this. Here are a few tips to help you enjoy your vacation without totally blowing your progress:
.
1️⃣ First and foremost, remember you’re on VACATION. It’s a time that’s meant to be enjoyed and be a little out of the norm. Get the black and white mentality out of your head and go into your vacation with the mindset of balance. .
2️⃣ Because of point #1, I personally rarely track macros when I’m on vacation and I advise the same for my clients. I focus on hunger cues and mindful eating, and roll with that. Several days without tracking won’t blow your progress. In fact, it’s a healthy mental break to step away from tracking on a regular basis!
.
3️⃣ Pack high protein snacks for in between meals and on the road. Protein provides satiety and fullness, and also helps maintain muscle mass. This will also prevent you from going into meal times starving. I don’t know about you, but I make much better eating choices when I’m not starving.
.
4️⃣ Focus on veggies and lean protein when choosing menu items. Most restaurants have healthier options these days, which makes it much easier to choose a nutritious option.
.
5️⃣ That being said, don’t deprive yourself of some of your favorite meals and treats. I like to choose a 1-2 treat foods to enjoy each day, and do my best to fill up on nutritious options the rest of the time. When you get your favorite foods, SAVOR it! Remove the guilt and enjoy every bite.
.
Food is meant to fuel, but food is meant to also be enjoyed! If you’re a food lover (like me! 🙋🏼‍♀️), it’s often part of the experience when traveling. It is absolutely possible to enjoy your favorite foods without totally blowing your progress. And lastly, when you get back home, jump right back into your normal routine. No punishment via over exercising or restricting … just do yo thang! 👊🏻
