Eating out can be tricky when you’re trying to keep calories low. Here are a few tips to keep you on track that don’t involve counting calories!

Spontaneously reduce calorie intake by choosing a dish that is either high(er) in carbs OR fat, not both! Let’s say a carbohydrate-heavy dish such as pasta takes your fancy 🍝. Keep fats low by choosing a tomato-based dish over a creamy one…and pass on the grated parmesan! Foods high in carbohydrate AND fat such as pizza, chips, fried foods and creamy pasta dishes are likely to pack a higher caloric punch 🥊!

Make smart food swaps 🙃! Switch out the chips that accompany your steak…. but make sure they’re replaced with a large portion of salad and veggies! Not only will your meal appear bigger, the extra volume will fill you up too…and for a fraction of the calories!

Ask for any sauces or dressings to be served on the side. This way, you can control how much you add to your dish, or ditch completely.

If you’re having 2 courses, choose starter and main over main and dessert. In general, desserts tend to be higher in calories than starters (😭❤️🍰)!

Don’t forget that drinks contain calories too! Order water and sip throughout, or low calorie fizzy drinks such as diet coke to add to that ‘full’ feeling. Not only are beer, cider, wine etc high in calories, the alcohol content is likely to reduce your willpower around food!

Tips for my macro-trackers out there in an upcoming post 😘!
